Selling stamps? This is what Sébastien actually does.

When his wife, a teacher, tells him that parents sometimes ask if he sells stamps, he’s no longer surprised. He even smiles when people say, “Oh, you work at a Post Office. So you sell stamps?” He fully understands that most people are unaware of the different roles within bpost. Proof? He himself was surprised when he discovered the variety of vacancies before applying to bpost.

Different roles

Officially, Sébastien holds two positions at once: he manages a team of ten salespeople and serves as a Credit and Insurance Advisor. But in reality, it’s often much more. “I am the right hand of the bank manager. I am a distribution manager and Credit and Insurance Advisor. Every Wednesday I prepare the weekly schedule for the team and check if it’s being followed. And when there are absences at other offices, I step in to put out fires.” Sébastien’s days are certainly full, but he doesn’t complain. On the contrary, he enjoys the variety in his job. “My work is very diverse, and you have to be flexible and versatile. With so many roles, you never get bored.”

More advisor than salesperson

“Although we’re in sales, our main focus is on giving advice. The goal isn’t just to sell. Customers often don’t know what they need or what solutions exist. Our role is to listen, ask the right questions, and guide them towards what suits them best, without any pressure. For a Credit and Insurance Advisor, it’s important that customers feel reassured and understood, and that they leave with a solution that truly fits their needs.”

A friendly, family-like atmosphere

Besides the professional challenge, Sébastien was mainly looking for a company with a human touch. “I really enjoy the relational aspect of my job. My previous roles always involved contact with people; it’s part of who I am. Even though bpost is a large company, it still feels like family — we’re very close to our managers.”
