The worlds of bpost

Redouane

Redouane Mezghrani is living proof that with a little willpower and a lot of perseverance, you can achieve anything. After studying graphic design – a subject he didn’t like very much – Redouane applied for a job at bpost on the advice of a friend. After a few years at the counter, he progressed to become the manager of a bpost office and a financial advisor. Today, he is facing a new challenge as he is now a Financial Analyst for bpost. A conversation with a passionate person ...

Redouane, can you tell us what your job at bpost is?

Redouane: “I am both a branch manager and a financial analyst. As the branch manager, I am in charge of a team of three to four people who principally provide customer service at the counter. I am also responsible for the smooth running of the machines and, more broadly, for the management of the office and customer satisfaction.”

That’s a lot of work! But it’s not everything you do, as you are also a financial advisor ...

Redouane: “Indeed. At this level, my role is to advise clients on opening an account, for example, but also to inform them about their insurance, investments, etc. In short, provide a useful service to all types of clients. For me, the essential point is to ensure that the client is protected. If I see that they are too hesitant, I prefer not to offer them anything rather than sell them an investment product that they will regret once they get home.”

« I have the day-to-day work to deal with, a successor to train, and I need to prepare for a new role ... and before that, a few days of holiday. Yes, I am busy! »

By becoming a Financial Analyst you have a new impetus to your career?

Redouane: “Yes. From mid-June, I will be a Financial Analyst at bpost. I actually joined bpost with the intention of starting a career in banking. I started at the counter, where I quickly proved myself. There is no better school! Quite quickly, I was fortunate to be promoted and after a few months, became the manager of this branch in Evère in Brussels. I’ve been in this position for five years now, and felt it was time to move on.”

Not too sad to leave your position at Evère?

Redouane: “It’s true, I had a great time here. I’ll miss the bond I built with my customers, of course, but I know that my successor will do a good job. For the record, his very first job interview was with me. He also started his career here at the counter, and now he’s going to take over from me. I’ve already introduced him to some of my clients, and I’m going to make sure that by the time I leave, he’s had a chance to meet all of my most regular clients.”

« A graphic designer by training, I joined bpost on the recommendation of a friend. »

Before joining bpost, did you work elsewhere?

Redouane: “I worked as a freelance graphic designer in advertising and event agencies, but I quickly got bored of that and, one thing leading to another, I ended up at bpost bank. The world of finance attracts me enormously, and so to progress my career, I did a Master’s degree in finance in 2019 and 2020. This has led to a purely financial position at bpost.”

Is this development in your career encouraged by your hierarchy?

Redouane: “bpost actually offers us this opportunity. With a desire to work in a more financial field, I realized that there was a wide range of positions available at bpost. Why go elsewhere when I am so happy here? It’s a company I know that offers a very good working environment … in short, it’s ideal.”

« bpost is a big family. My employees and I eat together regularly, our families know each other ... it’s really nice. »

How would you describe your working relationship with colleagues?

Redouane: “Really good. We all get along very well, and when someone retires, well, we sometimes find it hard to hide our emotions ... there are values at bpost that you don’t always find elsewhere.”

Do you have a good anecdote to tell us?

Redouane: “Yes, it’s funny. Earlier, we were talking about my ‘financial’ customers. I remember that after a meeting with one of them, he was so satisfied with my advice that when he was leaving, he said: ‘Thank you doctor, and see you soon’. Because in the end, that’s what it’s all about: there are health doctors, and then there are financial doctors (laughs). Joking aside, it’s nice to know that after a good conversation, the client is satisfied and relaxed.”

To conclude, what would you say to someone who would like to come and work at bpost?

Redouane: “bpost is THE place to start your career. But also a great place to make a new start. To come back to my personal case, having been rather badly oriented when I started my studies, it was only sometime later that I understood what I really wanted to do. At bpost, for a young person starting out, it’s really a very good school to go to after studying. Knowing that you can start at the bottom and go far if you have ambition is priceless.”
