HR Legal Counsel
What will you do?
As Legal Counsel Human Resources, you will contribute to specific projects with the aim of establishing a robust legal HR partnership with senior management members, and ensuring the proper development and implementation of these projects within the legal and HR framework. You will provide legal advice and support to internal clients to ensure that bpost's transactions and HR-related activities comply with legal requirements.
You will ensure and monitor that bnode exercises due diligence in business ethics and integrity to prevent, detect and resolve non-compliant conduct to help protect the business, the integrity and reputation of bnode and to ensure that the business objectives are met in a manner that is compliant with legal requirements.
Main responsibilities
a) In the legal HR domain, as an expert in the field, effectively advise and assist internal clients, and in certain projects, contribute to the partnership with senior management and the proper development and implementation of HR-related projects:
- Identify and analyze cases and issues, including those related to employment disputes.
- In certain HR disputes, lead the strategy and assess the feasibility of resolutions; provide reasoned recommendations.
- Research and apply employment laws and regulations related to cases, including some strategic HR projects, to provide timely and practical advice, and collaborate effectively with internal clients, including top/senior management members.
- Evaluate various HR problems, complaints, and situations in relation to applicable employment laws and regulations, considering bpost's needs and risk management context.
b) Conduct specialized HR legal research to provide advice or address more complex HR matters with a significant impact on bpost, including certain strategic HR projects.
c) While incorporating the role of business partner, research and suggest solutions that consider the company's HR environment as well as operational and business constraints. Develop HR-related project documents and make recommendations (e.g., HR policies, guidelines, memos).
d) Stay updated on the evolution of HR-related legislation and regulations (case law, doctrine). Maintain own legal documentation and proactively communicate HR legal updates to colleagues.
e) Contribute to the selection of external advisors, including lawyers, and manage expenses related to external advisors effectively.
f) Arrange consultations and interactions with external parties (lawyers, consultants, labor unions).
Who are you?
- At this stage of your career, you have a genuine interest in human resources law.
- You have a proven track record (at least 5 years of experience) as an attorney or legal counsel in a medium or large company, administration, or institution, preferably in the compliance field, combined with a master’s degree in law.
- You are enthusiastic about quickly learning the rules and processes, including in administrative law, which will be essential to the performance of your function.

- You are well organized and thorough.
- You can think analytically and solve problems.
- You can work under pressure, with an eye for detail and with tight deadlines.
- You have strong influencing and networking skills, thanks to your engaging and inclusive character and your flexibility.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills in Dutch with a good command of French and a reasonable command of English.
