We are seeking a senior Global Lead Software Architect (Custom Build Environment) for our Cross-Border BU to lead strategic architecture initiatives across Bnode's international Cross-Border business. This role will focus on assessing and shaping our technology landscape and defining scalable architectures for our applications, digital services and data platforms.

The ideal candidate will come from a strong software development background and have progressed into architecture, with deep experience in custom-built software environments, Java and/or Python, microservices, APIs and cloud technologies. You will combine technical depth with the ability to translate business needs into scalable, secure and future-proof solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Leadership

• Assess and document the current application and technology landscape for cross-border logistics and transport.
• Define scalable, secure and modular reference architectures for custom-built applications and digital services.
• Shape architecture for ecommerce integrations, APIs and data platforms.

Platform Development & Guidance

• Create and review technical designs for coherence, scalability and resilience.
• Guide development teams on microservices, domain-driven design and product-centric architecture.
• Provide architectural guidance for event-driven solutions, including Kafka and schema governance.

Collaboration & Governance

• Work closely with product owners, developers and business analysts to translate requirements into technical architectures.
• Collaborate with suppliers and remote teams to ensure alignment and delivery.
• Contribute to architecture governance and quality across teams.

Innovation & Best Practices

• Stay current with cloud-native technologies, software architecture and data platforms.
• Promote secure software development and architectural best practices across teams and domains.

Experience

• Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a relevant discipline.
• 15+ years of experience across software development and architecture, ideally progressing from software engineering into software, application or solution architecture.
• Strong experience with custom-built software environments and modern application development, particularly Java and/or Python.
• Strong experience with microservices, APIs and integration architectures.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and technologies such as Kafka.
• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS. Azure exposure is a plus.
• Experience with DevSecOps and secure software development lifecycles.
• Familiarity with modern data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of domain-driven design and distributed application architecture.
• Experience with REST APIs, API gateways and integration patterns.
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes and AWS ECS/EKS.
• Familiarity with data platforms and data governance principles.

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proven ability to guide and mentor development teams.
• Ability to drive architectural direction through technical credibility, collaboration and influence.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in logistics, transport or ecommerce environments is a strong advantage.
